The rules in full

  • Open every square that isn't a mine. Your first dig is always safe and opens an area.

How a round of Blibzz Sweeper works

  1. First dig: Tap any square. Your first dig is always safe and opens an area.
  2. Read the numbers: Each number says how many of the eight squares around it hide a mine.
  3. Flag the mines: Long-press, right-click or switch to Flag mode to mark a mine you've worked out.
  4. Open the rest: Tap a number whose flags are all down to open everything else around it. Open every safe square to win.

No guessing, ever

In classic Minesweeper you can do everything right and still lose to a 50/50 at the end. Here, no-guess boards (on by default) are checked by the Blibzz server before you see them: every square can be worked out by logic alone from your first dig.

So if you're stuck, there's always a safe deduction somewhere. Look for a number that's already touching all of its mines (everything else around it is safe), or one whose unopened squares are exactly as many as its mines (they're all mines).

Patterns worth learning

A handful of patterns solve most boards faster than counting square by square:

  • 1-1 along a wall: the square beyond the second 1 is safe.
  • 1-2-1 along a flat edge: the mines are under the two 1s, not the 2.
  • 1-2-2-1: the mines are under the two 2s.
  • A 1 touching only one unopened square: that square is a mine.
  • Chording: when a number's flags are complete, tap it to open all its other neighbours at once.

The daily board and races

Every day there's one daily board, the same for everyone, and only your first try counts for the day's fastest times. It's a nice little ritual: one board with your coffee.

Races give you and a friend the same board at the same moment, and the first to clear it wins. Send a code and you're racing within seconds; your code stays open while you go and share it.

Tips for Blibzz Sweeper

  • Start in a corner or the middle, it doesn't matter: the first dig is always safe.
  • Flag only what you're sure of. A wrong flag breaks chording.
  • Chording is the biggest speed-up there is. Learn it on Easy before trying Expert.
  • On the daily board, slow and right beats fast and wrong: only your first try counts.
